What We Do
We are two women who have come together because of a desire to help women to grow and push beyond their comfort zones in their careers.
We are Urvina Shah & Anjali Gudhka, your Career Transformation Coaches.
We had been in our respective careers (Urvina in the NHS and Anjali in the Corporate Sector) for a long time and could do the job with our eyes closed. We kept our heads down and got on with it waiting to be recognized by managers and peers instead of putting ourselves forward for projects or new initiatives.
At times, we even felt our work didn’t matter to those in authority and as a result we didn’t speak up in meetings. We went un-noticed by everyone around us and it perpetuated the feeling of not being valued.
I, Urvina, also felt that that was all I knew especially as I had been doing the role for a while. This led to lack of confidence in upskilling or learning new technologies, and even applying for other roles.
And the last straw was when my role was restructured and it prompted me to reconsider my career priorities using coaching tools at my disposal from my 15 years experience of career development for students and staff. I decided to turn my career around and embarked on a new career path at the age of 50 (call it mid-life crisis!).
I, Anjali, finally had enough of not getting the promotion that I wanted, and gave myself a year to quit my job and find another role. To help myself, I invested in training to become an executive coach so that I could figure out what my next move would be. In the process, my mindset around my career path shifted and doors that were previously closed started opening up for me and I got my promotion within that 1 year and I also gained a new purpose in my life – to work with others in similar situation to me.
We spend 80% of our time working. So it makes sense that we should enjoy what we do and for our contributions to be recognized and valued. And yet for many women this is far from the reality.
Our different backgrounds and stories led us to form UKAN Coaching where we focus on aligning women to careers they want and transforming their careers from stagnation to ascension.
